McKinley

“GOODBYE! It is God’s way! His will be done!”
And to his Father’s heart his spirit fled
By all the angel hosts securely led!
Immortal man! The setting of thy sun
Reveals a journey nobly, grandly run—
A life so sweet, so pure and so sublime
As to receive the praise of every clime—
The recompense of fame so gently won!
But to the fiend who fired the fatal shot,
And took from us his dear and sainted life,
And on our country placed this horrid blot,
And sadly crushed his frail and faithful wife,
And all this dreadful woe and anguish wrought,
What shall we say! “As thou wilt!” stay the strife!
