The President’s Death

     The people of this country honored and loved President McKinley. The poor, the rich, men high in position, as well as those in the humbler walks of life feel that a personal loss has been sustained. No President, no man, could have enjoyed to a greater degree the respect and esteem of his fellow-citizens than did President McKinley. No people of this great country of ours could have been clothed with more sincere grief and mourning on account of the sudden and unexpected death of the President than the people of the South. McKinley loved his country; he loved the South and the people of every section of the country. The surgeons did all that could have been done to save the life of the President, and they deserve the respect and endorsement of every true doctor and surgeon for their heroic and skillful efforts in the performance of their duties, and no true medical man can find ground in any way to censure them. If the published reports are to be relied upon, and if we are to accept the opinion of the very best surgeons, all was done to save the life of the President that could have been done by human effort.
