Notes and Comments [excerpt]
The “Official” Report.—After some delay the official report of the physicians and surgeons who attended President McKinley has been made public. It contains very little important information not already known. There seems to be very little, if anything, to criticize in the surgical conduct of the case. No definite statement is made as to the real cause of death, but it eliminates the reported injury to the pancreas and the poisoned bullet. It is very probable that the President’s general condition, one of lowered vitality, due in part to his sedentary habits and lack of exercise, contributed more to the fatal result than anything else.
