Our Washington Letter [excerpt]

The terrible shock and grief that fell upon our entire country last September when our beloved President was assassinated has brought about a change in affairs here of course. We have a new occupant of the White House, a strong, active, energetic young man who apparently promises to prove a good pilot for the ship of State. One thing is certain, things will not be allowed to simmer too long while New York’s man of destiny is in command. Washington is entirely friendly to President Roosevelt, and most of our people firmly believe in him.
