It is with the most profound sorrow that the country will learn of the attempted assassination of President McKinley in the exposition grounds at Buffalo. No ruler of the day has borne his share in larger or more successful policies, and none has seemed to enjoy to a larger degree the confidence and the esteem not only of his fellow countrymen, but of the people of other lands. At the present writing the extent of the Presidentís injuries is not definitely known; it is the earnest hope of every American, and of every friend of civilization wherever found, that his distinguished career may not find an untimely end through the bullet of an assassin.
