THE assassination of President MCKINLEY has shocked the world. Needed by the general interests of the nation, he was especially needed by the shipping interest, which had received his earnest attention. To have revived American shipping would have ensured him the gratitude of generations of his salt-water fellow citizens, and his policy tended to securing this revival. As his life comes to be studied, both his character and his achievements will shine with increasing lustre. God save the State!
