The descriptive text accompanying the illustration reads as follows:
“Thousands of Baltimoreans gathered at points of vantage and silently
paid tribute of sorrow to the memory of the martyr president. Union Station
was the center of greatest interest. Here the train remained for sixteen
minutes. A band and drum corps played hymn airs, and a guard of 600 federal
employes [sic] lined either side of the track. The sketch is made looking
toward Charles street bridge from Maryland avenue” [sic].
