President’s Wife Starts

With Children She Is Going to Washington

     New York, Sept. 25—Mrs. Roosevelt, wife of President Roosevelt, accompanied by Ethel and Edith Roosevelt, Miss Young, the governess, and William Loeb, Jr., the President’s assistant secretary, left Oyster Bay this morning for Washington. Kermit and Quinton Roosevelt will leave there later in the day, accompanied by a maid. Mrs. Roosevelt and her party occupied a special car, which was attached to a regular train. She drove to the station, with her children, in one of the family carriages, and was met there by a number of ladies of the village who had come to bid her good-bye. There was also quite a gathering of prominent citizens and villagers to see the President’s wife depart. Before boarding the train Mrs. Roosevelt shook hands with all her friends, but there was no formal demonstration. Mrs. Roosevelt will spend some time in this city shopping, and will then proceed to Washington with her children on the four-o’clock train over the Pennsylvania Railroad.
