     The reports from Canton that Mrs. McKinley’s health has so far improved that Dr. Rixey is able to leave her in other hands while he returns to Washington, are a source of sincere relief to the entire community. Mrs. McKinley has become endeared to the American people by reason of all that she has passed through in the recent tragic months. Her sweetness and cheerfulness under her own great physical infirmities have always given her a tender place in the public heart, and the character which has shone out through the darkness that has overshadowed her since the Buffalo tragedy has transformed that tender regard into a permanent love which her fellow countrymen will ever hold for her in the future.
