North Shore Suburban Street Named for Late President
Following the action taken by the South Park
Commissioners of Chicago in naming a large public park after President McKinley,
the City Council of Lake Forest has decided to honor the name of the late President
by naming a street for him. This street, which was formerly Maple avenue, lies
to the east of the Chicago and Northwestern depot.
The action of the Lake Forest City Council was
taken after a petition had been presented signed by a large number of the citizens
of the town, asking that the name of the late Chief Executive be given to the
street. Without any debate on the subject the Council unanimously decided to
call the street McKinley boulevard.
McKinley boulevard is one of the pretty streets
of Lake Forest. It is not over three blocks in length and is in the center of
the town. It is macadamized, and the shade trees which line it make it almost
as shady as a grove in the summer. A road extends from each end of the boulevard
for miles along the Northwestern railway, and the scenery along this road is
regarded as the finest on the north shore.
