The attack on President McKinley a week ago has had a deterring influence upon business in a number of lines of trade. In some instances buyers withdrew from their markets preferring to await developments. In speculative circles the event was the overshadowing factor and had an unsettling influence. The monetary markets have been afforded some relief by the purchase of Government bonds by Secretary Gage.
