Editorial Notes

Thursday of this week has been appointed by President Roosevelt as a day of prayer “in submission to the will of Almighty God,” in view of the death of President McKinley. The time is that of the funeral of our late President. We trust the hour may be generally observed.

It is a great comfort to know that President McKinley lived and died a sincere Christian. In his sickness he suffered, as in his health he had lived, in an atmosphere of piety. On his last day he tried to chant “Nearer, my God, to thee,” and his last words were “It is God’s way: his will be done.”
