McKinley Will Smoke a Cigar
B
, Sept. 11.--President McKinley continues to show the most unmistakable evidence of improvement and recovery. The uneasiness caused by last night’s dressing of the abdominal wound has given way to more pronounced confidence that has existed at any time since shooting [sic]. The beef juice fed by mouth the first time last night, has been assimilated without the slightest indication of the wounds in the stomach retarding the processes of nature. The President showed many signs of improvement. He was so cheerful that the doctor remarked that they would let him smoke a cigar before long. Mrs. McKinley had the usual brief morning visit with her husband.
