THE most dangerous feature of the assault on President McKinley was the possibility of its landing Roosevelt in the presidential chair. McKinley is a conservative man with real elements of statesmanship in his make-up. With McKinley in the chair business conditions will not be subjected to sensational assaults. With Roosevelt in the presidential chair no man knows what would happen. He is hair-brained [sic], erratic, prejudiced, flighty, unsafe and as president would be a positive menace to the country’s peace and prosperity. Every American citizen should offer a prayer that the country may be kept out of the hands of Roosevelt, the political clown.
