The mistaken bulletins of yesterday came from no less than three sources that very rarely announce such important events inaccurately. An explanation of the occurrence was published this morning by the Associated Press, which says that the premature “news” was given out at the White House by the chief operator at that place. Afterwards it was stated that the operator at the Buffalo end of the White House wire had been handed a bunch of messages announcing the President’s death and immediately began rushing them off. He had sent three of the messages before they were recalled.
