Mr. Ireland a Washingtonian
Secret Service Agent Who First Caught the Assassin.
Mr. S. R. Ireland, who, according to reports from Buffalo, was the first to grasp the would-be assassin, is well known in this city, where he made his home for a number of years. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and is a lawyer by profession. He was in active practice in Washington when appointed to the secret service a couple of years ago. Being a young man of particularly fine appearance and address, he has on a number of occasions been detailed to duty with the President, and was with him during the inaugural ceremonies last March. He is a notably cool and level-headed man and is understood to have made an excellent record in the secret service.
