AFTER the State of New York has electrocuted the assassin, what have we gained?
Absolutely nothing but the removal of one wretched tool of the Anarchists.
It is like sponging off one drop of venom from the serpent’s fangs.
The venom is there yet; the fang is there yet; the serpent is there yet.
The only remedy is to kill the serpent itself.
As long as Anarchy is allowed to breed and disseminate its foul teachings, wretches will rise to put those teachings into practice.
We have never conceded for an instant that liberty of speech permitted men to teach or newspapers to advocate arson, robbery, rape, or cognate crimes.
Why should we permit to be publicly taught the murder of those whom the people select for their servants, representatives and officials?
     Anarchism must be exterminated.
