The pistol is, perhaps, the readiest instrument of murder within reach of the hand of the assassin. While seeking the means of statutory curb for the intending murderer, why not put a heavy restraining tax on the manufacture, sale and ownership of this readily concealed and life destroying weapon? It is already forbidden by law to carry concealed firearms in many of the States; but if it should be made a costly as well as an illegal habit something would have been accomplished in safeguarding the right to live.
