M’Kinley

[FOR THE PRESS.]

The nation weeps, and in the hour of gloom,
Our tears well up and fall upon his tomb.

From humble ranks he rose to leave a name
That through all time shall wear the crown of fame.

As a ruler, statesman, soldier, or as friend,
His aim was always for a righteous end.

So gentle, kind, so true, and full of cheer,
Are fitting wreaths to place upon his bier.
