Soldiers on Guard
Company of Fourteenth Regiment Stationed at Westlawn Cemetery.
When the body of the president was left lying in the vault at the Westlawn cemetery Thursday evening and the guard of soldiers and marines went away, the duty of watching it was left to a company of the Fourteenth regiment of the United States army [sic]. Their tents are pitched not 50 yards away from the vault to the northeast. Night and day will these soldiers guard the president’s body until the time comes to place it in a mausoleum. The captain said that he would probably station two men in the vault at a time with relief every two hours.
