Wanted
Give us more laws! A time like this demands
Strong, binding laws to stay the assassin’s hands,
Laws which will drive the fell anarchist out,
Clear out of free America’s great land.
Laws which no friend or foe can ever doubt;
Laws we must have, made sure by some firm hand;
Laws which will stand forever and a day,
And bring swift punishment to all conspirators
Against our government or President.
Ay, more than this—laws that will lock all doors
’Gainst every agency that seeks to kill
The Nation’s head; to break her people’s will.
Today we mourn; Columbia! See her weep!
Our Chief is dead. He’s sleeping his last sleep.
