Heard the Shots That Killed McKinley
Miss Bessie Johnson[,] daughter
of William F. Johnson residing at No. 807 Jackson street [sic], was standing
in line awaiting to shake hands with President McKinley at Buffalo the day he
was shot. She said she was standing about the two hundredh [sic] person in line
who were patiently awaiting their turn to shake hands with the President when
she heard the two shots and then the police officers came out of the Temple
of Music and closed the doors.
She says she will never forget the scene so long
as she lives. The people were excited and were angry and wanted to lynch the
assassin who was taken away by the police in a closed cab.
