President McKinley’s first words after he was wounded were of thoughtfulness for his wife and the next were for the safety of the miscreant who had just attempted to take his life. That man lives on a high plane. His example and life seem very fine and lofty; more in keeping with an ideal character than a successful candidate for political honors. The nation that can boast of two such men as McKinley and Roosevelt in its two highest officers at one time is certainly divinely favored.
