Burst into Tears
Among the many thousands on the Midway yesterday who heard with horror of the shooting of the President, perhaps no one was more strongly affected and evinced such real anguish as did Chiquita, the Doll Lady. She was in the height of one of her popular receptions, and as the announcement was made and her patrons flied out in silence, it was some moments before her tiny mind comprehended the full state of the situation. When in Washington she was honored with presents from the President and Mrs. McKinley, and the little woman was deeply moved at the news of the tragedy, bursting into tears and crying bitterly. It was a late hour before she could be comforted, and then only by the assurance the President was doing well.
