Not an American
Editor Evening News:
While we all deplore the sad news from your beautiful city, and, with your good people, pray Almighty God to restore to us our good President, we are pleased to know that the assassin is not an American. While the act is an insult to every American citizen, we are grieved to know that it happened within your fair famed city, whose people have shown so great esteem and love for justice.
In sorrow with you,
CHAUNCEY WEATHERWAX,
Secretary and Treasurer of the Association of the Survivors of
151st N. Y. State Volunteer Infantry, War of ’61 and ’65.
Lockport, Sept. 7, 1901.
