M’Arthur Threatened with Knife

New York Clergyman Has Letter Warning Him Against More Speech.

(By Associated Press.)

NEW YORK, Sept. 20.—“I am sorry that it was not you instead of President McKinley who was shot. If you dare open your mouth again against anarchy or anarchists you will be the next to feel the assassins’ dagger.”
This is the text of a letter received by Rev. Robert S. MacArthur, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of this city, within the last few days. Dr. MacArthur referred to the matter in his sermon yesterday and afterwards gave out the text of the letter. He said the letter evidently had been written by a well-educated person. He has received other threatening letters since he preached against anarchism a week ago.
