Cleveland Is Shocked
Ex-President Believes It Must Have Been the Act of a Crazyman.
Winstead, Conn., Sept. 6.—Ex-President Cleveland
was fishing at Darling Lake in Tyringham, Massachusetts, when he received the
news regarding the shooting of the president. He at once started for shore in
order to hear more details in regard to the matter and anxiously asked for the
latest advices from McKinley’s bedside. Cleveland was horrified at the news
and said:
“With all American citizens I am greatly shocked
at this news. I cannot conceive of the motive. It must have been the act of
a crazy man.”
