Thou slimy, cesspool worm, on filth be-gorged;
Thou poison-spitting toad, thou
venomed snake,
Thou brazen hound of Hell, in darkness forged
By gloating fiends, a nation’s
heart to break.
What appellation vile may word thy shame,
Oh monster fierce, oh brute devoid
of mind?
A mongrel wretch thou art, beneath all name—
Hyena, wolf and snarling cur combined,
The lightning-bolts of scorn are at thee hurled;
The voice of peoples loud proclaims
thy ban;
Thou stinkest in the nostrils of the world
As putrid offal on the shoe of
man.
Assassin base! we loathe, yet pity thee,
An pray God’s judgment may as
generous be.
