The crime of Czolgosz has been a great shock to the large body of his fellow Poles in the United States, and few classes of residents have been more outspoken in condemnation of the crime than the Poles. At the national convention of the Polish Roman Catholic Union, at Syracuse, N. Y., Tuesday, Peter Krolbassa, of Chicago, responding to an address of welcome, denounced the assassination of McKinley and insisted that the Poles were in no way responsible, and declared the “hand of a Pole was never stained with the blood of assassination.”
