Curious Crowds at City Hall
Visitors Here for Railroad Day Want to See Where Czolgosz Was Tried.
It was necessary yesterday to lock the door of
the court room at the City Hall where Czolgosz was tried. Visitors attracted
to Buffalo by Railroad Day went to the City and County Hall in continuous streams
all morning and afternoon accompanied by their Buffalo friends who were obliged
to point out the place where Czolgosz sat during the trial and where the judge
was when sentence was imposed.
Several of the curious ones went to the basement
of the building and caught a glimpse of the corridor which leads to the tunnel
through which Czolgosz was brought into court and through which he was returned
to jail. Others wished to get into the court room, but this was not permitted.
It was feared, if it was allowed, nothing portable in the room would escape
the relic hunters.
