  M’Kinley Jokes with Dr. Mann
President Talks in Cheerful Mood to Surgeon Who Performed the Operation Upon Him.
     Buffalo, N. Y., Sept. 9.—[Special.]—Members of
the Cabinet told tonight how the President joked with Dr. Mann.
“You performed the operation on me, didn’t you
  doctor?” inquired the President.
“I did,” replied Dr. Mann, “and I hope with all
my heart it will be a success.”
“Success,” replied the President. “Why, I’ll be
down to breakfast in a day or so.”
There are many stories of a similar character
showing the President’s cheerfulness and pluck.
