FRIDAY NIGHT, Sept. 20, 1901.          

     The action of both the commercial and financial markets with the resumption of trading following the death of President McKinley showed that general confidence had replaced the unsettled conditions existing at the close of last week. Business, however, in most lines of merchandise has been very moderate, the obsequies of the President being the foremost consideration of the nation, with the effect of exercising a deterring influence upon trading.
