     The Examiner-Journal-American combination is catching it hard and often now from ocean to ocean and in a way that the goo-goo eyes it is now making will hardly compensate for. The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce has excluded it from its files and its reporters from its sources of news, preachers have denounced it from the pulpit and all the decent papers in the nation, and most all the indecent ones also, have basted [sic] it from all directions. However, [it?] may be doubted if either one of the journals will suffer long or very severely. The public memory is short and the constituency that feels just as the Examiner combination does is very large and that combination seems likely to have that field mostly to itself. It will be a profitable field to work and Hearst is likely to work it for all it is worth. He will be decent until the present storm blows over, but it is hardly to be hoped that he will be decent long. It is not in him.
