President McKinley Shot

As we go to press, it is reported that President McKinley was shot twice and seriously wounded this afternoon by an insane man. The President was in front of the Ethnology Building, on his way to the Temple of Music when the shots were fired. The first bullet struck him in the chest, the second penetrating the groin. The assassin was captured and taken to the station-house. His name is Frank Nieman, a Pole, and he comes from Detroit. The man advanced toward the President, apparently to shake hands, and when within touching distance fired twice, his revolver being concealed by a handkerchief. The bullets have been removed and the President is out of danger.
