Is Emma Goldman a Russian Spy?

Washington, Sept. 17.—Ther[e] are good reasons to bel[i]eve that Emma Goldman, whil[e] posing a[s] an anarchist, is in real[i]ty a paid agent of th[e] Russian gov[e]rnment: in other words, a spy. A well-known Ru[s]sian of this city, who was for years in close touch with high of[fi]cials of the whit[e] czar, made the [f]ollowing stat[e]m[e]nt in regard to this matter to a correspond[e]nt today:
“Emma Goldman is a Ru[s]sian spy and in the pay of th[e] third [sec]tion of th[e] polic[e] of that country. Sh[e] w[a]s, and I bel[ie]v[e] is, constantly in communication with the [f]ormer and the pr[e]s[e]nt Rus[s]ian consul-g[e]neral at N[e]w York, and her work for that governm[e]nt was very [e]ffectiv[e].
     “Th[e] pay of th[e] Ru[s]sian gov[e]rnment is her real sourc[e] of incom[e].
“I am in a position to stat[e] that Goldman was regularly giving information to th[e] Ru[s]sian consul-g[e]neral.”
