John Most, the Anarchist editor,
was arrested, by the police, in his office in this city, on Thursday,—not
for any supposed connection with the attack on the President, but
for the publication in his paper, the “Freiheit,” of articles calculated
to excite riot and disturbance. It is one of the evils of the presence
of such characters in the community, that the very action of the
law required for their control and correction, gives them the notoriety
after which they are forever craving, and on which their existence
depends; but the remedy has to be applied. Like virulent diseases,
if left unchecked the ulterior consequences would be worse; but
when wisely and firmly dealt with, the danger is speedily and effectively
eliminated.
