Anarchist Maggio Knows Much
Leavenworth, Kan., Sept. 12.—Secret service detectives
who have been in Leavenworth since Monday night looking up evidence against
Antonio Maggio, who is under arrest in New Mexico, charged with having knowledge
of a plot to kill President McKinley, are said to have hinted that the Italian
knows more about the alleged plot than is generally supposed. They examined
Frank Maggio, the suspect’s brother, and made inquiries for an Italian musician
who was chummy with Antonio, and whose present whereabouts are unknown. Two
of the detectives left the city last night and were followed today by a third
secret service man, who continued the investigation with the aid of the local
police.
Santa Fe, N. M., Sept. 12.—Antonio Maggio, the
anarchist, has been taken from Silver City to Albuquerque. He was cross examined
and sweated but refused to divulge anything upon the subject of the president’s
assassination, although witnesses were presented to prove that he made predictions
that the president would be assassinated before October 1. He was bound over
for court on the charge of conspiring to murder.
