Heard Shot Czolgosz Fired
Dr. Joseph Krainik Was Near McKinley When Revolver Was Discharged.
Dr. Joseph Krainik, a dentist, of 1126 Walnut street [sic], who returned to Milwaukee yesterday, was close to President McKinley in the Temple of Music at Buffalo when the chief magistrate was shot by Czolgosz. He was in line nearing the president when he heard a noise like a chair falling. Two such noises followed each other in quick succession. At first, he said, few of those who were in line realized what had happened, but the news soon spread through the crowd like wildfire. Women screamed and men rushed toward the spot. Dr. Krainik said it took an hour to get Czolgosz out of the Temple of Music, and threats of lynching were heard on all sides.
