W. R. Hearst Hung in Effigy

Crowd about It So Large That Traffic Is Suspended.

        SPECIAL DISPATCH TO THE SENTINEL.
     NEW YORK, Sept. 19.—In Bedford avenue, near Monroe street, an effigy of William R. Hearst, publisher of the trio of Hearst’s papers, was hung from an electric light pole at 9 o’clock this morning. The effigy attracted a large crowd.
     The effigy hung in Monroe street all night. This morning the boys got it down and placed it in a more conspicuous place in Bedford avenue. A large number of small boys gathered about and began pelting it with stones. The crowd became so large that all traffic was suspended for a time.
     Three large placards were suspended from the effigy, which read:
     “This is Hearst, the real assassin of the president;” “Down with William R. Hearst,” and “Down with yellow journalism.”
