Made Him “Shut Up”
Chicago Man Was Told He Might Be Lynched.
A man in the Lobby of Murphy’s Hotel yesterday,
who stated that he was from Chicago, was discussing with some Richmond gentlemen
the assault upon President McKinley. He said that he could not very much blame
the man who shot the President.
“You had better not give expression to such sentiments
here, for you might be lynched,” remarked a Richmond official.
“What’s that you say?” asked the Chicagoan.
“It’s a fact,” relied the Richmond man, “your
life would be in danger.”
The Chicagoan quickly got out of the city.
