Strange Scene
Mrs. L. E. Hardy, of Rushford was an eye witness [sic] to the shooting of President McKinley. She stood a few feet from the president watching the line of people as they were shaking hands with him, and particularly noticed the assassin before he reached the president. She says “the expression on the president’s face was a study during the instants the tragedy was being enacted. His look of pity changed to one of suprise [sic], then pain, then the most extreme look of reproach that I have ever seen on human face. Then it turned to pity.”
