“Yellow” Anarchism
Out of the attempted assassination of President
McKinley has grown a sentiment of just indignation against the “yellow” journalism
which is responsible in a great measure for the spirit and results of anarchy
in this country. The New York Journal, which has heaped upon President
McKinley the worst abuse that it is possible to place upon any man, and which
has sown the seeds of discord and unrest among the masses of the people who
read that sheet, is receiving the condemnation which it deserves. That paper
is rejected by thousands of people who fear its influence upon members of their
households, among the number being many good Democratic families in Nyack who
will not allow it to come within their doors.
When, however, the news was received of the assault
upon President McKinley, that yellowest of all yellow journals “crawled” and
praised Fresident [sic] McKinley to the skies. Such hypocrisy is too transparent
to deceive anybody. A paper of the character of the above odiously “yellow”
journal should be excluded from every American home.
