Brother of McKinley’s Assassin in Trouble

Joe Czolgosz in Los Angeles Says Slaying of President Was Curse to Family.

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 20.—Cursed by the deed of the man who deprived this nation of the services of the martyred McKinley, pursued by a seemingly inevitable fate, Joe Czolgosz applied to the district attorney’s office today for a warrant for the arrest of a second hand dealer on a charge of forgery. The warrant was issued and detectives are looking for the alleged criminal. The forgery was committed in connection with the sale of a bill of goods which the complainant had left with the second hand man to sell.
“My brother’s deed has been a curse upon our family,” said Czolgosz. “Every place I have gone I have been hounded by the police. They arrest me as soon as I arrive in town. When I am released they continue to watch me.
“I was twice arrested when I first came to Los Angeles. The police followed me for a long time. It was through no hatred of the president that my brother killed him. My brother was insane.”
