No Monument for Czolgosz

     One anarchist shot another anarchist in New York city [sic] the other day because one of the anarchists asked the other anarchist’s wife for a kiss. The police in taking charge of the parties found upon the person of one a printed call for funds for a monument to Czolgosz. The announcement of several weeks ago that the anarchists contemplated a monument to the assassin of McKinley was esteemed by most people as a fake. The papers found upon the New York anarchist undoubtedly confirms the published information. Whatever such a sum may amount to, or however raised, no monument will ever be erected, on any spot of ground over which the Stars and Stripes float, to the memory of, or in glorification of, the deed of the dastard who, while holding the hand of President McKinley in pretended friendship, made a deadly assault on his life. It would be a desecration of freedom’s soil that could not be permitted. All of the anarchists of this continent, reinforced by all the anarchists in the world, could not protect from destruction and utter annihilation any memorial seeking to honor the wretch and outlaw who but partially expiated his awful crime in the electrical device at the Auburn prison.
