Secret Service Detail
Chief Wilkie’s Operatives to Guard President Roosevelt.
The Chief of the United States
Secret Service stated yesterday that there will be a regular detail of Secret
Service men accompanying President Roosevelt at the funeral of President McKinley
today. Chief Wilkie said he did not know how many would be needed as the arrangements
for the protection of the President were in the hands of the local police, and
that the Secret Service would furnish all the men that were required by the
local authorities.
Chief Wilkie further stated that the formal report
of Operatives Foster and Galleher, who were in the President’s party at Buffalo
when he was shot, had been received, and had been submitted by him to the Secretary
of the Treasury. He said that the report differed somewhat from the report submitted
to the War Department by Captain Wisser of the Coast Artillery Corps.
