Here and There and the Presidents [excerpt]
The news of his assassination in Buffalo was a great shock. An account of it was telegraphed me by his secretary, Mr. Cortelyou, in the evening, followed by a message every morning and evening until his death. I attended his funeral, entering the church with the Hon. Myron Herrick, our present Ambassador to France. It was most impressive.
