Present at the Reception
At Which the President Was Shot.
Mr. R. H. Probert, proprietor of the Excelsior
Machine works, attended the reception at the Exposition Friday, at which President
McKinley was shot and was only a few feet away when the shooting took place.
He had not noticed the assassin until after he fired but his attention was at
once attracted by the shooting and he saw the capture of Czolgosz and the removal
of the President. The scene was most dramatic; the excitement deeply intense.
Mr. A. Polsky and daughter, Miss Rose Polsky,
of Akron, were just entering the Temple of Music when the attempted assassination
took place. They were in the crowd uncomfortably crushed as the soldiers pressed
the people back while the President was carried out.
