It was a very natural feeling that prompted the crowd at Auburn to give expression to their detestation of the crime of Czolgosz by attacking the culprit on his way to the scene of his death, but the action was hardly worthy of sober, self-respecting American citizens. Czolgosz is in the hands of justice, and the shadow of his doom is over him. The American people can afford to leave him to his fate, without condescending to puerile outbursts of passion.
