The President Joked
An incident that showed the cheerfulness and
courage of President McKinley occurred yesterday. Dr. Roswell Park and several
other physicians entered the room and, after making an examination as to the
President’s condition, the Chief Executive asked:
“Which of you did the cutting?”
Dr. Mynter was pointed out.
“There is the guilty man,” said Dr. Park.
“Oh, so you are the man. Well, you made a good
job of it.” Then came a merry look into the President’s face and he added: “I
think we shall have to invite you all down to breakfast pretty soon.”
Saying this the President settled back among his
pillows and chuckled at the joke.
