Monday, September 23

     HOME—Leon F. Czolgosz is placed on trial in Buffalo for the murder of President McKinley. The prisoner enters a plea of “guilty,” which is changed to “not guilty” by direction of the court. The jury was quickly secured, and the prosecution presented a large part of its evidence. [omit]  ——The nine anarchists under arrest in Chicago since the shooting of President McKinley are released, there being no legal evidence against them. [omit]  ——For the third day in succession Mrs. McKinley takes two drives, accompanied by Dr. Rixey. [omit]


Tuesday, September 24

     HOME— [omit]  ——President McKinley’s assassin, Leon F. Czolgosz, is found guilty of murder in the first degree. [omit]


Thursday, September 26

     HOME—Justice White, of Buffalo, sentences Czolgosz, the assassin of President McKinley, to be put to death in the week of Oct. 28. [omit]
